(I’m dashing this off to you in an airport). I’ll be back in San Francisco on July 4 in time to see the fireworks from Chrissy Field. I hope you, dear readers, will pray for me as I also keep you in prayer, and always ask the beautiful sisters to pray for you when I give these retreats.
Today, June 6, the feast of St. Norbert, a dear spiritual son, Cesar Martinez, will be ordained to the priesthood in Stockton. Cesar is that prized seminarian who grew up in a local parish and is prepared to spend the rest of his life serving the local church. I can remember Cesar’s good humor on a few World Youth Day pilgrimages, particularly his patient smile in the crushing suffocations around Madrid in 2011.

Fr. Cesar Martinez Also being ordained today is a dear friend, Patrick Summerhays, in San Francisco, along with Cameron Faller. Both men are also local vocations, from Marin County. Please pray for all three of these good men, and for all those who are being ordained in this season of priestly ordinations. Cultural conditions notwithstanding, the number and quality of priestly and consecrated vocations continues to rise in our country; in Africa and other poorer nations ordinations have increased with explosive power. Never doubt that God the Father does not fail us in calling more than enough men and women to consecrated life; the number of those answering that call is on the rise again in our fair country.
